Dr. Francisco Durán
Biography
Dr. Francisco Durán brings 31 years of experience in education, having served in leadership roles in a variety of large urban school divisions, including as Regional Superintendent in Philadelphia and Chief Academic and Equity Officer in Fairfax County. Appointed Arlington’s Superintendent in May 2020, Dr. Durán was reappointed for a second four-year term in July 2023. He has served on the Virginia State Board of Education, contributing to the adoption of the Standards of Quality for Virginia. Additionally, he is as an adjunct professor at George Mason and Howard Universities. Dr. Durán holds degrees from the University of New Mexico, San Francisco State, and Columbia University. He is a dedicated advocate for students of color, English learners, students with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ youth, and women and people of color in leadership.
