Soccer is great exercise and children can join recreational programs as young as 3 and as old as 18 years old. There are different levels of play from recreational, to competitive, to premier with players who travel to regional tournaments. Recreational is typically grassroots play within the club or area, competitive is a step up with the introduction of in state travel, and premier serves more elite players who travel to regional tournaments. Players typically play in their own town for recreational and competitive leagues, and each organization sets their own prices. The following programs are open to children living in Providence:
AYSO United
AYSO United Rhode Island is a Youth Soccer club based in East Providence. AYSO United is AYSO’s official club program, and it allows players to enjoy more advanced play, participate in intense competition and receive cutting-edge training while still enjoying the benefits of AYSO. The United (Club) club program where the top players are exposed to the challenges and competition of club soccer. In this environment, the players work with high-level coaches and play in USYS (US Club) leagues and compete against other youth club organizations.

Bruno United FC
Bruno United is a founding member of the New England Premiership, a league formed in 2009 by the strongest clubs in the Northeast to create the best environment for player development. Your child should try out if they have both a commitment to improving skills and a love of the game on and off the playing field. All teams practice two times per week and play one to two games on the weekend during the outdoor seasons (fall and spring). Most teams play in three tournaments per year (the youngest teams play in one or two). Older teams travel to college showcase tournaments and play in the Rhode Island State Championships. The Bruno United Youth Development Academy runs year-round and is open to all boys and girls ages 3-11. The program is coached by licensed, professional coaches and is open to the public. The program provides a fun atmosphere with an emphasis on, skills training, small-sided games, and learning to love the game of soccer

CLCF Soccer
CLCF provides opportunities for area youth to play soccer regardless of their skill level or playing experience.On the Developmental (recreational) level, they field teams from U8 through U17 in boys, girls or coed divisions. For younger players CLCF offers a Clinic teaching basic skills led by NE Revolution Academy Coaches. Both programs run in the fall and the spring. CLCF Select travel teams are comprised of more experienced players and engage on a competitive level as part of Rhode Island Youth Super Liga (RIYSL). CLCF Select is now offering Revolution Academy Teams for players ready for the top level of training. Select and Academy programs run in the fall, winter and spring.

Referee Program: The "Referee" program occurs twice a year at the time of the Fall and Spring Developmental programs. Classes are held once a week at the CLCF Building on Pontiac Avenue in Cranston. Any child who is an active member of CLCF may take advantage of this course, free of charge. The course teaches the 17 “Laws of the Game” and how to apply these laws to the game of soccer. The students will referee actual games that are played in CLCF’s Developmental program. The instructor holds a certification to teach the Laws of the Game. The students will be paid for the games that they officiate at the end of the season.

Cumberland Youth Soccer
CYSA offers a range of teams at different levels of competition. Recreation is a program of fun and learning for athletes ages 4 to 18. The travel soccer program for youth ages 6 to 15 starts in the Winter after the Recreational season and does not include the Fall season. The CSP United program is for players ages 8 to 15 who are passionate about soccer and are considered to be performing at the elite or A level within their organization. The RUGRATS program is a developmental program designed to introduce children between the ages of 2.5 and 3 years of age to soccer. TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a national soccer program created to train young people with disabilities in a caring coaching environment.

East Side Sports: Soccer
East Side Sports offers fun, recreational/instructional soccer programs for boys and girls living in the greater Providence (and surrounding) area. It utilizes parent volunteer coaches and emphasizes core values that include the importance of sportsmanship, team membership skills, and instruction of developmental skills in a fun, moderately competitive environment. The soccer program, which offers recreational activities for children ages 3 through Grade 8, runs during the fall.

MACH 1 Futbol Club
MACH 1 Premier Teams are open to all youth players U9-U19 and are not dependent on residency of any town or state. MACH 1 FC Premier Teams have the opportunity to play in various leagues with most currently in the Northeast Premier Soccer League. Hypersonic Teams are the highest-level premier teams within MACH 1 FC. These teams are dual-age group teams for the U12, U14, U16, U17, and U19 divisions. The Coaching Director and Head Coaches select players based upon player attitude, development, ability, and exemplify the qualities of the MACH 1 “Complete Player.” Supersonic Teams are typically single-age group teams from U9-U14. These teams will represent the highest-level single-age group MACH 1 FC teams for the U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18 and U19 divisions.

TOPSoccer
TOPSoccer is a free program designed for special needs children between the ages of 5 through 19. It is a non-competitive, co-ed program which allows participants to be introduced to the basic skills of the game and work on fundamentals in a safe environment while having fun throughout the process. All children must have a parent or guardian with them at the field at all times. Parents are welcome to assist but are not required. This program is designed to bring an opportunity to learn and play soccer to any boy or girl, who has a cognitive or physical disability. The program is carried out by volunteers, with financial support from US Soccer and a handful of youth soccer organizations such as Pawtucket Youth Soccer and CYSA.

Project G.O.A.L.
A 100% free, coeducational, academic responsibility, tutoring and mentoring initiative inspiring academic success through the reward of soccer. Meeting after school, twice a week students spend 90 minutes of targeted academic enrichment with accredited teachers and earn an equal amount of time in soccer training with their licensed coaches. During the fall, the program is run out of Calcutt Middle School in Central Falls. During the spring, the program is run at the Moses Brown School in Providence.

RI Strikers FC
Rhode Island Strikers is SYSA's sister Premier club based out of Smithfield. They are one of the most affordable programs in the Northeast, as they believe no child who wants to play at the high school level should be denied because of cost. This is for the player that has excelled in the recreational environment, then has gone on to excel in the competitive environment looking to take their game to the highest level within our programs. Tryouts typically happen in the late spring/early summer and the season runs with a fall and spring outdoor program and winter futsal.

Soccer in the Catholic Athletic League
The Catholic Athletic League (CAL) offers a number of sports where youth can play for their Catholic school or parish, but there are some opportunities for non-Catholics or Catholics whose parishes don’t have a program. Contact your local Catholic parish or school to find out about their teams. CAL offers soccer for boys and girls in the spring.
